DAY 01

AIRPORT - NEGOMBO

Muthurajawela is a marsh located in the Negombo lagoon, known for its diverse flora and fauna. With 192 flora and 209 fauna species (excluding 102 bird species), it is a must-visit for nature lovers.

The wetlands are best explored by boat, where you can spot endemic flora and fauna. The lagoon and marsh are home to waterfowl like herons and egrets, which feed on the 40 different fish species, including 15 native wildlife species.

DAY 02

NEGOMBO FISHMARKET

Take an early morning visit to the bustling Negombo fish market. One of the country's most important fish markets, expect a cacophony of smells and sounds as the mongers try to sell their catch. Stop and discover dry fish stalls where you'll get introduce to one of the Sri Lankan's favourite delicacies.

DAY 03

NEGOMBO - SIGIRIYA

DAY 04

SIGIRIYA - MINNERIYA

  • After breakfast visit a paper recycling factory, make your papier-mâché Elephant and paint it yourself
  • Enjoy a cooking experience with a local cuisine
  • Evening proceed to visit Minneriya National Park

Minneriya National park is one of the best places in the country to see wild elephants. Dominated by the ancient Minneriya Tank, the park has plenty of scrub, forest and wetlands in its 88.9 sq km to provide shelter for toque macaques, sambar deer, buffalo, crocodiles, leopards and abundant birdlife aswell.

The dry season, from May to September, is reckoned to be the best time to Elephants, which can number 200 or more, come to feed and bathe during what is known as 'the Gathering'. However, it's also possible to see large numbers of elephants here at other times of year too.

DAY 05

SIGIRIYA - POLONNARUWA - SIGIRIYA

Polonnaruwa was established as the capital city after the fall of Anuradhapura and is known as the mediaeval capital of Sri Lanka. Pollonaruwa contains the ruins of some of the masterpieces of Buddhist sculpture and remarkable feats of engineering that were well ahead of their time. Most outstanding amongst these is the Gal Vihara temple with its famous rock carvings of the Buddha and Parakrama Samudra, a vast manmade reservoir covering an area of over 23 kilometers.

DAY 06

SIGIRIYA

The Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in central Sri Lanka. The temple is situated in a large rock outcrop and is made up of five cave temples that have been converted into a Buddhist temple complex.

The temple is of great historical and religious significance to Sri Lanka, and is a popular pilgrimage site for Buddhists. It is also a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the world to marvel at its stunning architecture and art.

DAY 08

KANDY - TEMPLE OF THE TOOTH

Sri Lanka's dances have great historical and cultural significance, representing different regions of the country. Learn about their history and watch students aged 10+ perform with traditional Sri Lankan drums. Afterwards, join in and learn to dance with experienced dancing masters.

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, commonly referred to as the Temple of the Tooth, is a Buddhist temple located in the city of Kandy. It is one of the most revered and sacred temples in the country, and is houses a tooth relic of the Lord Buddha.

DAY 09

KANDY - WELIGAMA

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is a sanctuary located in Pinnawala, Sri Lanka. It was established in 1975 to care for and protect orphaned elephants found in the wild. The orphanage has since become a popular tourist destination, where visitors can watch elephants being fed and bathed in the nearby river.

The sanctuary also serves as a breeding ground for the elephants, with many babies born and raised in the orphanage.

WELIGAMA
